How to stay healthy during the holidays

Mulled wine, christmas cookies and hot chocolate are only some of the delicious treats around the holiday season. It is so difficult to say no to them without feeling like we are missing out or finding excuses of why we should simply be enjoying and letting go.

But in average, people will get at least 1kg (2 lbs) after the season, so here are some healthy tips that can help you making it better for youself, so that youc start the new year full of health and in track with your fitness goals.

1.Water, water, water

During all these days. drinking as much water as you can is one of the best things you can do to avoid weight gain and remain healthy. Keep youself hydrated, flushing toxins and keeping your metabolism running. Make sure you also drink one glass of water as you wake up and before every meal to aid with digestion and balance your body.

2. Snack clever

Snacks can add a lot of calories if you are not careful which transforms into weight gain. With all the cookies and cakes arround during this season, make sure to always have fruit around to fill around half of your plate, and pick only a small piece of those things you really crave.

Regarding hot beverages, stay away from the hot chocolate, egg nog and heavy coffee. A nice cup of tea is all you need to keep you warm and get the season flavours!

3. Bring your healthy picks to the party

Saying no to all the good things at the party is difficult enough. So make sure you bring with you at least one healthy option for you to rely on. A salad with all your favourite veggies, a bake of healthy food or a light dessert are a great way to make sure you stay on track.

4. Portion control

You don’t need to say no to everything while you starve and watch everyone eating. You are still able to have that cookie and a piece of cake! But that doesn’t mean you should eat the entire tray or 5 pieces of each flavour. Try just a bit of the things you want, and keep the calories under control and the weight at bay.

5. Go for a walk

Christmas walks are a great way to keep healthy and active while you enjoy the season! You can burn around 100 kcal for a 20min walk! Go around your town or your neibourhood, check out the stores and decorations, or even go to for a walk in nature! Walking will burn some of the extra calories, keep your metabolism running and get you into the holiday spirit!
